David

I know how to select ClearType in XP, but I still see jagged, bitmap-like
text in some of the other applications (Photoshop, PS Elements, etc.) and
also on many Internet Explorer sights.

I'm new to PCland, having been a Mac user for the past 15 years. The font
types always looked smooth on my Mac.

Is it possible to achieve the same thing on a PC using XP? If so, how?

Thanks.

David

1.. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance,
and then click System.
2.. Click the Advanced tab, and then under Performance, click Settings.
3.. Click the Visual Effects tab, and then do one of the following:

Well, I already have all those boxes checked. The text is still not smooth.
Which of the 4 boxes should I have selected at the top of the list?

I have found that "let windows chose" works best for me.
I hope this helps.

David,
I think the text appearance is a function of the screen resolution. I start
noticing it getting raggy when I crank the screen resolution up to 1280x960,
but if I'm working at text, I'll drop down to 1152x864.
The difference is noticeable in terms of smooth font appearance, which is
easier on the eyes.
If you can't find the answer, the next best thing's a workaround :)
