Is it possible to send a fax without having a fax modem?

Faxing is a function that can only use analog phone lines and analog fax
modems. Accordingly, no fax software will function with cable modems or DSL
lines. With some DSL connections you can obtain a DSL line filter suitable
for connecting a standard analog voice line to the DSL line and can then
connect an analog fax modem to that line.

Hello,

I am using Windows XP and Outlook 2003. I add Fax Services component and
want to use Outlook to send and receive fax without relying on an internet
fax service provider. I am using ADSL connection; so I don't need a dial-up
modem. However, without a fax modem, there is no entry under the Device Name
on the Fax Service management console to enable Send & Receive fax
properties. So I'm stuck.

I might sound stupid but is it possible to send & receive a fax through
Outlook without having a fax modem or device? If it is possible then I
really appreciate any information.

Thanks,

Edward

Thank you very much for your super fast reply to my question at this very
early morning. I guess I have to buy a fax modem then.
