Mr Mike

My wife and I would like to share a folder without our daughter being
able to access the folder. All three of us are using XP pro with
simple networking.

Change the File and Folder Permissions so that only you and your wife's
accounts have access to the folder.
If your daughter has administrative rights to said folder - she can undo
everything you have done.

Just to give a little more detail to Shenan's good advice:

1. Disable Simple File Sharing from Folder Options>View.

2. Create user accounts with passwords for all three people. If you are
doing file/printer sharing across your Local Area Network (LAN), you
need to create the user accounts/passwords on all machines on the LAN.
You can still automatically log into a user account for convenience if
desired.

Configure Windows to Automatically Login (MVP Ramesh) -
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm

3. If your daughter has a user account on your computer, make her a
limited/standard user, not an administrator.

4. Right-click on the folder and set its Sharing/Security so that only
listed accounts (yours and your wife's) have access.

Even simpler, open a commandprompt and type:

net user guest {passwordof yourchoice}

Then, with simple sharing on, any network connection will require this
password, regardless which user.
