Is it possible to make a resource without having to make it a mail

I have a lot of test equipment that needs to be scheduled for service trips.

I need this equipment to be resources, because if they are already in use in
another location, a service trip from another individual can not be scheduled
at the same time for the the same equipment.

If you have any other ideas, of how this could be done, please let me know.
I am not opposed to programming a database to do this, but I have found that
there are native things that can be done in Office 2003 and Exchange 2003
with a little creativity.

Example of types of equipment:
Spectrum Anaylzers (5)
Oscilloscopes (4)
Watt Meters (4)
Multi meters (10)

Thanks,
Stuart
