Is it possible to Export a table to a EDI file?

Hello Guys,

Is it possible to Export a table(or query) to a EDI file?
Where can I find some info on that, will I need 3rd party software for this?,

I would also like to know the same for trying to import an EDI file into my
database!

Earl,

I do that now BUT it is specific to the file and the EDI software. There is
no 3rd Pary Software that I know or I would have used it. An easy way to
tackle this is export it to a text file and have your EDI software grab the
file, which the newer ones do and then *translate* and send. Softshare
Vista/Delta does this VERY well. It does the same thing in reverse for
importing into Excel... have it append to file and then set up a routine to
import into Access. Mine is set to do so on click of a button. HOWEVER,
make sure you include some code to prevent the *oh did I click that, let me
try again* code, so you don't end up with duplicate data.

Phew..Thanks for replying,I was beginning to think that I would not get any
feedback on this.

I took a look at the software and if it can do what you stated , then I
think I will be helped.
The thing is that our European supllier has asked us if it's possible to
send our purchase order in EDI format, but for me to do that I will have to
see their Layout for this file as I have come to understand that their is a
differance in US and European styles.
Just so I understood your reply(please correct if wrong) , this is what I
think I will be doing,

1.I will open up the sample EDI file that my supplier will be sending me in
the software and hopefully I will be able to somehow save the
style-format(scheme) of that file in the software.

2.From my acces DB I will generate a text file which hopefully the EDI
software will not only translate but also put in the preferred Layout for my
supplier!

3.When I receive an EDI file from them, I would simply have to export it to
an excel file and from there it's not a problem!

Sorry to lay this on you, but this is completely new to me,and thanks again
for helping!

Your Supplier should have a Specification File mapping their layout. They
should not be sending you any file just the specifications.

Once you get the file you will select the fields from your database that is
needed and drop to a text file. Open the EDI software and it will, having
been told in previous set-up where to get the file, bring it in. You will
open it and click the two or three steps and the file will be sent.

Software will drop it to a perviously mapped loaction. Then open your
database and click the button to import the file and append to the table

No problem, believe me I know how this is the first time around. Let me
add, the software I used Softshare Vista/Delta does have a learning curve if
you have never done it. You MAY want to get some instruction, if you are
going to do it yourself OR hire someone to set it up. Note, they are going
to need the Specification File from your Supplier, so you might want to get
that now!

I have a hunch,but still I'm not sure,you see I am just a simple man with
not a whole lot of knowledge of MS access and hopefully you can explain to me
