Is it possible to coordinate Access 2003 with Outlook 2003

I have a very large database of 4,000 records. I have started using Outlook
2003 as my current Contact source but there are times that I would like to
have the records from Outlook imported into Access so I can run mailing
labels.

You can use the Import/Export Wizard from the File menu in Outlook to export
your data to Access...

Dear Jocelyn,
Thank you for your suggestion. I am aware of the Import/Export Wizard but I
have many more fields in the Access database than in Outlook Contacts. What
will happen when the records don't match in the number of fields?
I understand being able to map the existing fields but am concerned about
the non-existing fields.
I appreciate you help very much,

While going through the Export wizard there is a step where you can map
fields...you should be able to map them as you want them there. If you
export to a new database as a trial, you can see how it works out before
trying to export to your working database.

Just to clarify something - when exporting to an MS Access file - Outlook
will ask you to select the MDB file (or create a new one). If you select an
existing MDB file - it will ask you if you want to replace it. If you answer
yes, the new mdb file will contain any pre-existing tables along with a new
table called "contacts" (regardless of what the Outlook contact folder name
is). If there is a pre-existing table with this name (Contacts) - it will be
replaced with the results of the export process. You will then need to add
the next step of importing the Contacts table to whatever your ultimate
target is via an MS Query or whatever approach you may choose to use.

The Export wizard does not provide you with the facility to map to any
"pre-existing table". It simply replaces the "contacts" table if it exists.
IF you have a table named "Contacts" in the target MDB file and this table
is open - the Outlook export function will fail.

Thank you, Jocelyn, for the info. I will try the new database trial. That
will be good to test the export.
O.O.

Thank you, Karl, for your clarification. I will try the "new" file first and
then try the "replace".
I don't know more than one way to bring records in (copy and paste) so I
don't have any idea how anything else works (RE: "the next step of importing
the Contacts table to whatever your ultimate target is via an MS Query or
whatever approach you may choose to use.")

As this is really not my area of genius (that's why I wrote this group!), my
next quesion is:
"Down the road, when I have updated the Contacts info in Outlook, how do I
update the Access file as it would need to be either overridden or synched?"
I really appreciate your time in trying to help me with this. I know that
there has to be a way to use Outlook in conjuction with Access or Microsoft
would not have bundles them together, right? :)
Thanks, again,
O.O.

If you're not familiar with the working's of Access - then you'd need to
post those kinds of questions in the Access newsgroup since that's outside
the scope of this list.

At the same time, sounds like you're also a possible candidate for one of
the products listed here that would enable you to sync your contacts to an
Access database.

Hi, Karl,
Thank you for the suggestion of the slipstick site software. I will take a
look at it. I guess that my original post has digressed from an
"Outlook.contacts" newsgroups to something that need to be addressed to the
"Access gurus" newsgroup. I apologize for the dilution of focus.
As a manager of a very small office, but a very busy one, my hats are many
and I have to find info ways to keep them in the air with a bit of help from
those who are much more experienced in different programs than I. You have
helped greatly, as well as Jocelyn, and I appreciate the time and thought
that you gave to your answers.
O.O.

I sure understand the many hats concept :-) Glad we could help and good
luck with your project.
