Has anyone been able to boot from a USB hard drive? Can you please describe
your setup (if yes)?

I get a blue screen when using F12 key in order to boot from a copy of
Windows XP located on the USB hard drive.

Thanks for any help,

now I may be wrong but as I understand booting from usb, in order to boot
from the usb it needs to be recognized, so the drivers have to be loaded
first. This can't happen unless windows boots and loads the drivers. However
some of the new motherboards may be able to do this. I am not sure of this.

ONLY if your motherboard supports booting from an EXTERNAL drive.

How to setup.... enter the BIOS and in the bootable order screen, check if
EXTERNAL drives are mentioned. If not, then it's not possible with your
motherboard.
