Yes, the HP MIO JetDirect cards like the J2552B fit the slots in the
printer. There are Ethernet and token ring versions.

They can be found for under $50 now.

Yes, there are several cards for this printer (the 'big' cards). Do a
search on Google or on the HP web-site. Or look here:

They are often to be found on eBay. Here's one I noticed a few minutes
ago. That's now sold, but there's a photograph together with a list of
printers that these 'big' cards are suitable for.
('Big' cards have a back-plate 15cm. x 3cm. That of the later 'little'
cards is 9cm. x 3cm. - these are not suitable for the 4 Plus).

Soddit! I left out the url of that 'Sold' card (above). It's

Warren Block just beat me to a reply - but I'd say you'll find one for a
helluva lot less than the 50 dollars he mentions. Maybe around 20
dollars.

Thanks to both of you for the information and the quick response !

You can always get an external print server like the inexpensive HP
300X. It supports 10/100 ethernet speeds.

Also, with an external print server you can resell it easily as
external units can function with a variety of printers from lasers to
inkjets and brands from HP to Canon.

Here's a nice looking HP 300X for around $50 (retails for over $200):

Thanks !

Yes that is a possible solution but my difficulty is that it only supports
on parallel port and I need at least 2 as I have an HP 4 Plus and a HP 1600C
that I would like to print to. That would mean I need 2 of theses print
servers, not a real problem I guess.

Thanks for the info !

Cheapest thing is definitely the JetDirect card. Just plugs in the back,
use the menu to set up and away you go. Be sure not to get the Token
Ring version (you need a J2552-anything) as it has the same connector
but of course won't work.

I've picked them up for under $10 on eBay including shipping.

Hi Bob !

Thanks for the advice, I think I've found my solution on eBay as well, the
HP JetDirect EX Plus3. I've found a few on eBay, now to get the best deal
:-) Thanks for the word of advice about the token ring, I noticed that some
sellers make note of weather the unit is token Ring or Ethernet while some
neglect to provide that information, a oversight I'm sure.
