So on the whole if you have stuff that worked OK with XP (printers etc..) is
it likely you can just use the Windows xp drivers and applications if the
manufacturers website have only XP drivers and applications listed?

Depends on the app or driver, some will work, some won't, there is no "on
the whole".

I wouldn't do it without checking the vendor's website for Vista
compatibility. That is unless you take a Image before installing or
make sure System Restore can roll out the changes.

From what I've experienced with Vista setups there are some
things that will install or load - BUT aren't easy to get back out if
they are incompatible or cause the system to become unstable.

Some work, some don't.

I having been using XP drivers for my sound card since Beta2,
none of the others work, and music sounds great.

If you get a blue screen when you reboot, then the answer's no

I have had mixed results. I was able to use XP soundcard driver and XP
synaptics driver (although synaptics caused slow startup). I was not able
to use XP graphics driver which I expected.
You could get into a blue screen loop and not be able to restart the
machine - thats what happened to me when I tried an XP bluetooth software.

Its worth someone trying an XP driver for any of their hardware, but be
prepared for serious problems if it does go bad. So if you are going to try
it, make sure you verse yourself on how to get into safe mode and fix things
prior to trying.
