Is it me or does Microsoft not seem to be spending much money on advertising

yes, the reason is that they know that vista is horrible...

they are already working on the next version and plan to get it out at
record time

"to get it out at record time"
If you think so, you are unaware of the release history of Windows.
You seem to be unaware of the facts or are attempting to mislead others.
Check and you will see Microsoft is normally working on the next version of
a product even before the current is released.
This is nothing new with Vista.
Nor is it just Microsoft.
Most if not all manufacturers keep looking to the future, otherwise by the
time the future comes, it is to late.

Or perhaps you are trolling again and the facts are irrelevant to you again?

Apparently they do spend a lot. I remember reading that XP had a massive
media blitz when it launched, but I hardly knew it. But if you look around
there is indeed a fair bit of Microsoft advertizing out there. For instance,
Global Television, here in Canada, is doing a 'Deal or No Deal Canadian ed.'
with Howie M. [a cool $1,000,000.00 Cdn and tax free I might add] and the
first show was sponsored by Windows Vista. Yes we get Deal or no Deal twice:
one night out of the USA and the next out of Canada - Whoopie! They're doing
five Cdn ed. shows.

He appears to be a nay-sayer who dwells in the past and cares little about
the future. These folks almost always look in the wrong direction and seem
to enjoy placing their heads where the sun doesn't shine. They make even me
fell smart! So, I just laugh at them - poor folks. They just don't know any
better way to be... :)

Vista is the new Windows ME! I truly believe this.

Just goes to show there isn't one thing for which you can't find at least
one person willing to believe.

Why wish for something even more horrible than Vista? Microsoft wrote an
operating system that protected them from pirates, enabled the big music
and movie companies to control what people could listen to and watch, but
when they were all done, they couldnt get the damn thing to work.

What an odd comment. Sounds like it is you that can't get it to work :)

Hello Guess Who

And your evidence/reasons behind your beliefs are?

Ummm.. sound drivers? TV Tuners? ...

I don't mean to say that it crashes like ME did. What I mean by this is
that it is just an interim TEST phase to see what works and doesn't work so
they can fine-tune the next version.

To me Vista is a Joke. In addition to crippling the PC with all the safety
prompts, lack of Dolby Digital and Lord knows what else it restricts one
from doing.

5+ years in the making, you'd think it would have been ready out of the box.
Not totally MS fault, but where are properly functioning sound drivers? If
you're lucky, you can get basic sound capabilities but nothing advanced.

Look at other complaints here to see what doesn't work. How many people
complaining that their TV Tuners are not recognized? How many complaining
that it's much slower than XP.? That MAC commercial where the guy keeps
asking the "PC" for permission to do every little thing pretty much hits the
nail on the head. Oh, but it looks pretty ... That's sure to attract a lot
of folks. People shelled out 400 bucks for Ultimate, and they were promised
EXTRAS. Where are they?

It really is a shame that after 5 years of planning, testing, coding, bug
reports, etc. this OS is not as good as it should have been. So, by
calling it the next ME, I mean it's seems to be as big a mess as ME was in
many respects. Lots of shiny new hardware required, but no drivers to
support that shiny hardware. How long is Vista out, and why is Dell still
NOT installing it on their highest end machines? (XPS 710 series)

I've read reports that they are planning the next version for 2009 release.
Is this true?

I will not be installing ME, errrr, Vista on any of my machines any time
soon. I lurk here just to see what's going on. I have an MSDN subscription
and have installed many of the pre-release Beta's which were for the most
part horrendous. However, little by little things started to improve in the
later builds. I was surprised when I installed the final and it took less
than half an hour, since installing most of the Beta versions took sometimes
up to THREE hours to install. However, XP works fine for me, and I will
stick with that as long as possible.

Just as YOU believe that Vista is wonderful, I'm sure. I am entitled to my
opinions, just as you are entitled to yours. Just because your an MS
fanatic, doesn't make your opinions any more correct than my own. It amazes
me how cocky most of the MVP's are. I'm sure Billy would frown upon your
attitude.

Have a nice day, Mr. MS MVP SHILL.
