Well i was about to chuck away a junky old pentium 2 i think, then i wonder if its possible to take the floppy drive + cables and the hard drive cables and use it in my new PC? have the cables stayed the same over the years? and will my floppy drive work without instalation? (a bit of a paradox if it needs a floppy disc to install!)

All you need is the floppy disk drive and the floppy disk cable. And don't forget to connect the power plug to the drive from your power supply.

No configuration needed, except you may have to 'enable floppy drive' in the Bios.

It's usually worth buying rounded cables nowadays for better cooling and ease of routing. Only couple of quid each but if budget tight, old ones will do.

speed touch, don't throw it away, i'll have it!

OMG its so cold, i'm in suffolk at my nan and her husband Keiths farmhouse (hes a farmer) and am on her new PC. Its a 2600+ which usually idles at 55 degrees or there about.

Its idling at 18 degrees.

Eighteen. Centigrade.

Thats cold. I'm colder. I can hardly type...

8 bedroom farmhouse with no heating!

There are several about the place, dosent help that this house is 500 years old (seriously, it IS about that, its a cottage) therefore has no insulation. Theres a few inch round holes in windows too...

Still.

At least computer dosent overheat or anything...! 18 degrees! could overclock it... hmm...;)

Does it have electricity, or are you running the PC or a generator or big battery?

-- Or you could use a laptop with long life battery --

this place didnt have electricity until 1977 or something like that...

Before then it was generators (for about 2 years)

and before 1975 it was oil lamps, oil fridge etc...

Nearly blew up the computer this morning though, turned it on and i heard a hissing sound from the actual plug socket on the wall! Had it taken off the wall, and the bolt that held the wires together had fallen out (and had been out for a long time by the look of it) and the wires had messed up and started to melt! No wonder the computer was beeping at us, probably could have blown up the PSU!
