I want to buy a GV-R96X128DU card but I've got an Abit 133BX motherboard.
This board supports 2X AGP but no higher.

Will the card work with this board ?

I'm gonna upgrade the board as well, but my intention is to do it a little
later.

Any help much appreciated.

Most likely NO. The card can work in AGP 2X mode, but only if the slot
supplies it with 1.5 V. Only slots that support up to AGP 4X or higher can
do that. Your slot can probably only supply 3.3 V, insert the card there and
you'll fry it.

I think your right....the manual quotes the following:

"AGP connector supports AGP 1x and 2x mode (sideband) 3.3v device"

Seems like you've just saved me alot of heartache.

So does this then mean that my current Voodoo 2000 AGP will be ok in a new
motherboard which handles 8x agp ?

If so I might upgrade the mobo and cpu first.

That's again a good question. The Voodoo requires the 3.3 V that would fry
the Radeon. AGP 4x boards can commonly supply both, but most 8x only supply
the 1.5 V for newer boards. If the AGP connector on the motherboard requires
two notches on the bottom of the card, then the Voodoo will probably not
even physically fit. I think it has only one notch. If it fits, it might
stay dead, because it isn't getting enough power. I'm afraid you'll probably
have to upgrade mainboard, CPU and video card all at once.

Actually, since my last post I did some more digging and came to the same
exact conclusion as you.

What the hey.....looks like I'm gonna be buying some new toys.
