Hi All,

Is eSata "Plug n' Play" under Windows XP? In
other words, does it act like a USB memory stick?

Many thanks,

The system will see any external hard drive attached to
eSATA as an internal drive. By default, eSATA
controllers are usually configured as IDE, so you can't hot
plug. If a drive is connected, or disconnected with
the system running, the system won't see the change.
A reboot is necessary, but no drivers are needed for
this configuration.

If you install the drivers for the eSATA controller and
configure it as AHCI, then you can hot plug hard drives.
So, I guess that would be the equivalent of USB drives.

Thank you!

I looked at SIIG's manual for their eSATA controller. You
can eject with the device manager. Yikes! What if you miss
and uninstall your C: drive! But, not reinstall -- that
requires a reboot.

Bummer!
