Hi,

Is dual RAID 1 possible for my boot drive and my separate video
editing drive?
I want to mirror the drive that I keep my operating system and
programs on in one array, and then mirror the drive that I keep my
video editing files on in another array. Is this possible?

I have a dual processor system with a GA-7DPXDW+ gigabyte board with
built in RAID function for the 20265/20276 chipset. I'm running XP
PRO.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Bradley

Yes, but generally a real PITA to setup once you've
installed the operating system. Performance can also be
troublesome unless you have good quality RAID cards.
RAID1 also won't protect against you screwing up the
codecs, or some PoS software install hosing the system.

Since you already have everything setup, I'd recommend
instead going with Drive Image, making images of your
opsys/prog drive to an external drive along with making
weekly incrementals.

Data files should be backed up to an external drive as
well using something like Second Copy 2000.

Most of the onboard RAIDs that I have encountered have been crippled in the
firmware to only support one RAID. While it's sometimes possible to hack
the BIOS to provide full functionality this isn't something to tackle
lightly. If yours is one of those then you will have to either hack
Windows to enable the mirroring function or obtain another RAID controller
that is fully functional.
