I can not Drag and Drop icons on my XP DT; like I could in WIN98.

Is that just no longer an available option in XP, am I going to have
to just use Cut and Paste.

It still works in Windows XP. Check that you have dragging and dropping
enabled in the Taskbar/Start Menu properties. You'll find the setting under
Start Menu> Customize.

Close but no cigar. I had my hopes up there for a minute but it's
already checked.

AutoArrange and Lock Items to Desktop are unchecked? Both options are in
the right click menu of the desktop and are in the "Arrange Icons By..."
flyout menu.

The only item checked is "Show Desktop Icons".

It the bane of my OS, everything is set correctly, but it still
doesn't work. Can't get "Recent Documents" to work either.

I found the solution to this problem. I upgraded XP today and now I
can drag and drop DT icons.

I appreciate your suggestions, thanks.

Thanks for taking the time to let us know how you worked this out, Michael.
Just to be clear.... When you say "upgraded," did you install update
patches or did you jump from XP Home to Pro?

I inserted the XP CD, clicked "Install" and selected the "Upgrade:
Recommended" option.

Ah, in effect a "repair" or "in place" install. Thanks again! :)
