My crss.exe seems extremely active when I use Acdsee v3 to search
through about 10GB of files.

I run WinXP+SP1. Do I need to have crss.exe?

My version of crss.exe says it is by Microsoft, 4096 bytes, dated Aug
23rd 2001, version 5.1.2600.0.

Can I get rid of it?

Oh good, troubleshooting by Google.

Maybe you can help me out with that pesky "jdbgmgr.exe" file I just
found.

It sounds like your computer is infected with monopoly software, some
times refered to as microsoft windows. I think that personal computers
infection rate is over 90%. I would definitely try to get rid of it.

My point exactly - file names are pretty useless when malware can assume
filenames of legitimate system files or legitimate files frequently
associated with hoaxes. Either way a google search can lead to bad
conclusions. If "jdbgmgr.exe" was running as a process consuming 90% of
the processor time, many people would still tell me it is a hoax when in
reality it could be "anything".

If you suspect a file as malware - scanners are pretty good at checking
that out, and google is not your friend.
