I have broadband internet access, (cable). My concern is security.
I have Symantec Antivirus, Trend Micro Anti-spyware, and Window
Firewall is enabled.
If I put the computer in standby mode, can a remote computer gai
access thru the internet connection?
I turn it off at night or when I don't plan to use it for severa
hours, but sometimes I will be away for maybe one hour and I would lik
to have it ready to use. My question is whether the computer can b
brought out of standby remotely, or only by the keyboard or mouse

Here are a few things you might want to consider:

First, get a NAT router and place it in between your computer
and the cable modem. Any of the popular brands such as Linksys,
Netgear or Dlink will do the job.

Next, go to Start -> Run and enter devmgmt.msc in the Open box.
Click OK.
Expand "Network Adapters".
Right click the entry for your network card and select
Properties from the menu.
Click on the "Power Management" tab.
Note: This tab may not be present for your adapter.
Make sure "Allow this device to bring the computer out of
standby" is unchecked.
Click OK and close Device Manager.

Finally, and this might not apply to your system, go into the
BIOS and make sure that "Wake on LAN" is disabled.

Good luck

It’s secure in the seance that no one can access it, if your worried
about security I strongly recomend you don’t use windows as your
main OS.
