Is any thing happening?

I looked in the scan summary & found out of 97 scans, 5
objects were found. These 5 were on the very first day I
ran it. 8 or 10 weeks ago. Nothing since. Am I doing
something right or just lucky??? POPS"30"
 
So--it cleaned your system on the first run, and between you and Microsoft
Antispyware's real-time protection, it has stayed clean since.

Good job!

Now--if you run Ad-aware, it will find a number of cookies (a data-miner is
a cookie). These are what you'll typically find arriving without notice
even with Microsoft Antispyware in place. Feel free to let Ad-aware blow
them away, but don't think of them as great threats, either.
 
Combination of both. Are these deep scans, choose scan options > full system
scan (check the boxes below) and click "Run Scan Now".
 
It runs fullsystem scan auto. every day at 7pm. I do run
Ad Aware every day also & find 3-4 cookies. No problems
with those. The full system scan takes about 25 minutes
more or less....So far it's been great...POPS"30"
 
Great. That full system scan is something many folks neglect, especially
with antivirus apps. The scan is the only way that stuff that wasn't in the
definitions last week when it got onto your machine is going to get
caught--so it is worth taking the time to do.

Well again.... I think we have a scan paranoia among a lot
of users.

Most important is to have all "Four Steps" ! and to only use
antivirus/
antispyware programs with automatic update and real time
protection.

Of course then to be on SP2 platform for XP with automatic
patching.

I can´t see any need to scan more than once a week !
 
I find once a week is enough, but then I work with users who haven't opened
a virus for years now.

The accident of opening something that apparently does nothing but is
malware not yet in the definitions can happen to anyone, so the scan is
necessary--it's a matter of your own paranoia level how often. I'm not sure
when the last time I did a full scan with my antivirus--I usually only do
this intentionally when I have some reason to be worried. It is set to
scan, but probably at 2 am or sometime when I'm awake only occasionally : )

Microsoft Antispyware is scanning daily, but that's really for testing. I
don't expect it ever to catch anything.

problem some time ago. I let it run every day when I am
not using the computer. MSFT was nice enough to give it
to me, I am nice enough to use it. I try to keep up to
date with all the patches, etc. I am not really a
computer guy so I would rather be safe then sorry.

Hi Pops

Maybe I must clarify these "4 steps" ;)

It is 3 now and it will for sure be 4 with MSAS.

I can see a "paranoia" among a lot of users about virus and
spyware.
If you follow this MS page there is no need for scannings
every day.
Real time protection do the job and perhaps if you know when
your
antivirus vendor update virusdefinitions you can choose a
weekly scan
after this update.

problem some time ago. I let it run every day when I am
not using the computer. MSFT was nice enough to give it
to me, I am nice enough to use it. I try to keep up to
