Is all USB cable marketed in the stores supposed to be good for 2.0 as well as
1.1? At Wal-Mart one pack indicates it's good for 2.0 and a cheaper pack only
seems to indicate 1.1 compliance but doesn't say anthing about 2.0.

This seems obvious to me, but the USB 2.0 cable can be used as a USB
1.1 cable, but the USB 1.1 cable may not work properly as a USB 2.0
cable (depends on the cable and other factors).

The stuff that says 2.0 can be assured it works at 2.0. The stuff that
doeasn't say may or may not work at 2.0

I am confident any USB cable will work with any version. It's a software
thing that is USB 1.1 or 2.0, I believe 20 has better compression. I could
be wrong though....

USB does not compress data. 2.0 is a true higer data rate, which means
a higer frequency signal on the cable, which means the need to carry
that higher frequency without errors.

USB 1.1 cable is generally no good for USB2.0. USB2.0 runs at 480Megs
against USB1.1 12Megs. At this increased frequency the capacitance and
inductance of the cable come into effect hence making it necessary to use
the right cable to avoid data corruption and correct operation.

I bought mine from http://www.john.g4fuo.btinternet.co.uk/usb2_backplate.htm
It is new USB2.0 connectors and cable. Hope this is of help.
