On way to tell is by going to this site http://grc.com/default.htm and
scrolling down to Shields Up and testing it.

If you decide to update, I would steer clear of the 5.0 branch (a fancy
way of saying the 5.0 releases) and use the 4.00 branch.
Old versions can be found here:

I am staying with 4.5 until ZA cleans up their act. If it is beta there is
no guarantee that it is stable.

Installed Zone Alarm for the first time a couple months ago. I just read
here that it was buggy but I've had no problems. Can someone please tell me
the problem? Am I missing something?

This always happens to me. I go months without checking. I'm on 3.7
still. Thanks for the reminder.

I'm great with updating my 2 av software and ad-aware but keep
forgetting ZA.

Thanks.

I too read here that it was buggy, but I'm running it on a Pentium
III, 98SE, with no problems....

It was a long time ago that I installed it.
"2.1.44 was the last version of the 2.1 branch and
was first released to the public October 19, 2000."

Thanks for the information all, so it looks like
Version 4.5.538.001 is favorit at the moment,
despite the 4.78MB size, a lot larger than I recall.
Though the first one worked well all them years
but we all now things have changed since then.

Only for official clergy or is this offer extended to lay preachers?

I am sure a version 2.1.44 whitch is the work of Satan.

Try the link given by Anti_Freak_Machine

That's the Zonealarm site. It does not say free version there.
All sites I've tried have the payware version 4.5, even when they say
freeware.

So, where can the real freeware version of Zonealarm 4.5 be
downloaded?

You simply download 4.5, and after the trial period expires (full
version), it converts to the freebie version if you opt not to buy.

The workround appears to be to turn off 'mailsafe'... I dunno, I never
use ZA

That was the first thing I tried but it did not work on my system.
