Chris

If I'm using Studio .Net 2003, do I need to have ActiveSync installed to
debug applications with the emulator?

If so, do I need to have a serial cable for debugging apps on the emulator?

(I can run the emulator from the command line, but thats it- VS keeps
showing "Cannot establish connection" errors, even though I don't even have
an actual PPC device, just the emulator).

Chris,

If you don't have a network connection, you need to enable the Microsoft
Loopback Adapter. A serial cable is not required for working with the
emulator.

Ok,

So to clarify (I do have a network connection.)

*I am unable to launch the emulator from VS 2003 (only from cmd line).
*I am unable to use AS with the emulator (it cannot find it)

Should I be able to do both by having VS 2003 and ActiveSync?

Chris,

You should be able to launch the emulator from VS 2003, so I'm not sure why
you're having trouble doing this. Maybe somebody who has also experienced
this problem can give you some pointers.

Connecting the emulator to ActiveSync is a different issue and it requires a
special tool - the Emulator ActiveSync Connection Tool which is part of the
Windows Mobile Developer Power Toys:
