Is 64 deg C too hot ?

I'm new here. I have a p4s800D-E motherboard and a p4 2.8ghz processor. I
can monitor my motherboard and processor temps, and my processor stays
between 60 and 64, is this too hot ? Thank you.

A lot of people go into panic mode a soon as the CPU temp hits
the 50'C, but 64'C is still well within Intel's published tolerances.

I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you want to overclock.
 
depends on the ambient temp. if thats 40c then 60-65 is ok.
if ambient is 20 then you may wish to do some investigating.
the reason being if its that warm (yeah its ok if thats as high as it gets)
and the system is sort of idle, then what happens on a hot day when it gets
busy?

what is the ambient, what happens when you take the side off the box?
 
Ambient temp is 22, and the temp does go down to around 53 when I open the
case

1.) Are these temps you are reporting the idle temp or the temp
you get when doing something demanding like video encoding,
playing games, etc ? If 64'C is your idle temp, then be worried.
If 64'C is the temp when loaded you have nothing much to be
concerned about.

2.) A temperature drop of that much when you open the case is a
rock solid indicator that you need either an additional case fan
or to replace your current case fan(s) with something better.
You should also check your PSU fan to make sure it is clean and
working properly.
 
Thanks for the info, 64 was my peak temp under load, and it have since
dropped 10 degrees. I have an aftermarket cooling fan (copper) and I am not
overclocking.

That answer is a little too generic.

The max temps for the P4 varies from 68'C to 78'C, depending
mostly the speed and whether it is Willemette, Northwood, or
Prescott.

The OP has a 2.8 GHz P4.
For all of the 2.8 GHz models, the built-in thermal throttling
kicks in at 75'C and the catastrophic shutdown feature kicks in
at 135'C.
