I bought new MN700 base station to be used with Cisco wireless card. About 25 to 30 feet away, the signal becomes too weak to connect. Is it typical range? I am rather disappointed but I have no other experience with wireless network...
That is pretty poor, assuming that you have LineOfSight: no appliances
and no walls between the the two ends -- just air. And, that there is
no source of interference, such as other WiFi stuff or 2.4 GHz phones
or the like.
Try adjusting the antenna(s) on the base station, so that the polarity
is the same at both ends: if the WiFi card uses a vertical antenna,
set the base station the same. Also, raise the base station up higher.
Next, try rotating the laptop while you watch the signal meter.
In my house, I get 25-30 yards through a couple of simple wood walls;
I get more outdoors through a single wood wall. Not with the same
base station or with the same WiFi card, but my stuff is just standard
commodity equipment.
