I am trying to do a clean XP Pro install on a Compaq Presario 2700. It
previously had XP Home which didn't work well (IE errors, laptop would
intermittantly restart) and I just decided to start over. At the seemingly
same point in the install (37 minutes left), I am getting a blue screen
error. The error is as follows:

"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent
damage to your computer"
IRQL_NOT_LESS_THAN_EQUAL

The stop info is:
0x0000000A (0x00000004, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x804F1613)

Since the disk was formatted I don't see how it can be a driver from the
previous installation. Any other thoughts? I welcome all. As it is now, I
cannot use the laptop at all.

Thanks

This is usually a hardware problem. Do you have any devices connected to the
laptop? Also you need to go the Compaq website and see if there are
instructions there. When you formatted the disk you removed all the special
drivers and applications that Compaq had installed. Laptops require special
drivers, you must get these from Compaq. Some of these may have to be
installed before you install XP.

I had this problem on a pc and took me two days of trying
things before I was finally able to get it installed.
Don't know if this will help you or not but to solve my
problems I had to go into bios and disable internal and
external cache. Then I was not able to turn them back on
till a updated bios for my motherboard came out a month
later. Then was able to turn them back on without any
problems arising. Hope this helps.

My compaq has a recovery CD which reinstalls the system and all the required
files. Your changes and programs may not be preserved unless you back them
up. You may have to reinstall all your applications and redo your changes
to the appearance of the screens.
