Hi all, Recently since ive installed a usb adsl modem I am getting pops and
crackles listening to audio while browesing the web, my guess is that its an
irq problem as ive checked system information and all these devices are
sharing IRQ 7, ive been into the bios to disable IRQ 7 but this just moves
the whole lot to another IRQ, I have 5 pci slots with only a sound card in
one of these and the graphics card in the agp slot, ive tried moving the
sound card down to another slot but the problem still persists. Im stuck
with what else to do.

Heres some info from system information, im running windows xp home, 1.1ghz,
256 ram. This is from the conflicts/shareing part:

I/O Port 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 PCI bus
I/O Port 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 Direct memory access controller

I/O Port 0x000003C0-0x000003DF VIA CPU to AGP Controller
I/O Port 0x000003C0-0x000003DF MSI MS-StarForce GeForce FX 5200 (NVIDIA
GeForce FX 5200)

Memory Address 0xD8000000-0xDFFFFFFF VIA CPU to AGP Controller
Memory Address 0xD8000000-0xDFFFFFFF MSI MS-StarForce GeForce FX 5200
(NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200)

IRQ 7 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System
IRQ 7 MSI MS-StarForce GeForce FX 5200 (NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200)
IRQ 7 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
IRQ 7 VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller
IRQ 7 CMI8738/C3DX PCI Audio Device

Memory Address 0xE0000000-0xE1FFFFFF VIA CPU to AGP Controller
Memory Address 0xE0000000-0xE1FFFFFF MSI MS-StarForce GeForce FX 5200
(NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200)

Any help would be apreciated, thanks
Ellis.

That's 100% normal behavior in XP... see

Only way to stop IRQ sharing is disable ACPI in the BIOS.

Does your BIOS support APIC?
If so is it enabled?

Do you mean acpi?, if so yes its enabled in the bios, Ive now moved my sound
card down and all are on differnt irqs now, so the problem doesnt look like
an IRQ one, alough im still getting the crackles noise, thanks all for
helping.

No.APIC

is in addition to ACPI on many newer mother boards and is supported
in winXP but as you have stated that may not be the problem.
Have you tried updated drivers for the sound card/chip?

Yep, updated the sound card drivers, im stuck I dont know what else it is,
maybe my power supply isnt powerfull enough its 250 watt, could this cause
it??, as I said when I play a cd or mp3 while my usb modem is on if I
minimize the page or maximize it it produces a slow down or crackle really
annoying same with scrolling with the mouse in IE.

Yes the power supply might be inadequete. Not by it's,"Wattage" but by
it's ability to sustain the correct current under load.
Since running AMD Athlons I would never advise anyone using an AMD
system with using at least a 300w AMD approved PS.Again not the
wattage just the quality of supply and I never now build one with
anything less than a 350w approved.
