I'm wondering if this is moderated.

Story: MS beats Netscape with IE. MS doesnt do anything with IE.
Security problems *abound* with IE after time. Exploits everywhere and
rampant. Majority of users end up with at least some sort of spyware on
their computers.

New story: MS buys an app that was designed to combat the problem they
created, instead of fixing the software or writing better software from
the beginning.

On a sidenote, I hear stories abound of people doing a Suite-install of
Firefox+AdAware+NortonAV to fix the problems spyware has created on
their computers.

(On another sidenote, I'm booted into my linux dual boot now because it
deleted a spyware .dll that was hooked into tcp/ip winsock, so I came
here for help this way to get the problem fixed)

If your other partition is XP:

At a command prompt:

netsh winsock reset <enter>
restart.
(no--not moderated.)

That's pretty dumb statement. You write, "MS buys an app
that was designed to combat the problem they created ..."

That's like saying that the US goverment are responsible
for all car accidents in the world be they maintain the
roads. If you want to blame SOMEONE (I am assuming you
have some intelligence) then blame people that write the
spyware. And good luck in finding those people...

If you want to blame SOMEONE (I am assuming you
have some intelligence) then blame people that write the
spyware.

Or, let people blame themselves for installing spyware.
Contrary to popular urban legend, spyware does not
magically appear on people's computers. People have to
explicitly install that stuff. I gather that most people
do not like spyware. What I do not understand is, then,
why do they install it?

There's a very simple rule at work here: If you don't
like spyware, then don't install it.

Corollarly: The piece of software that can make up for
human stupidity has not been written yet.
