irfanview setting

How do I make irfanview open the files in a folder from the top to the
bottom in logical sequence (which means in alphanumerical order) using the
Pageup/down keys? or the mousewheel. Right now I click on the top one and
then press Page down and expect to see the number two in the file - instead
I might go straight to last then get asked if I want to go to the first one.
It is all over the place and not very satisfactory when it is necessary for
viewing pictures in their right order.

Anyway, go to tab Misc. 1 in the Properties window.
Check the option 'Jump always to next image when Page up/down key or mouse
wheel pressed'. That should do it I guess.

Yes I had already done that Onno - no difference. Next image to me and you
means the next one down in the file. To Irfanview next image can mean
anything.

Use the arrow keys instead of the page keys.

I was afraid of that. Another option: Go to the Options menu > Sort
directory files. Which sorting method is selected? I hope the wrong way,
that means you can correct it ;) .
By the way, my experience is that Irfanview has a slightly different way
of sorting by name than my file manager (2explorer). This difference is
too small to bother me.

As Onno suggested, check IrfanView's Options > Sort Directory Files
option. Also, it might help you to enable the Fit to Screen (Large Images
Only) option in the preferences. This way, if an image is larger than the
screen, IrfanView will adjust its viewing size. Then, if you press PageUp
or PageDown, it _will_ go to the next image, since it doesn't have to
worry about scrolling.

First select the correct sort order in the "Options" menu.

Then, tick the "Don't notify if begin/end..." in the "Options ->
Properties -> Other" tab.

Instead of Page Up/Down, use <Space> to move forward and <Backspace>
to move backwards through the folder.

Note: This is from v3.25 ... later versions have similar settings.
