I can't get irfanview to open and play real audio files. I downloaded and
installed a large package of plugins for irfanview, but still no joy.

Is there any specific plug-in that I need?

thanks for any assistance,

Ok, I found out I have to have Real Player installed to get irfanview to
play RA files, which seems sorta dumb.

I've had nothing but trouble with Real Player and trying to uninstall it, so
that is not an attractive option.

Is there any freeware that will convert ra to mp3?

You might want to give RealAlternative a whirl, plays most RealAudio stuff
(freeware - either google for it or look for it on www.betanews.com).

I think dbPoweramp Converter can do the conversion for you, version 11 is
just out

And once you have the codecs installed with RealAlternative, Irfanview will
play the audio too.
Just for the record.

Thanks for the suggestions and the recommendation for RealAlternative. I
installed it and it works great.

What I really would like to do, however, is to be able to play .ra files on
my portable mp3 player. I have not been able to find a freeware ra to mp3
converter, although there are some trialware programs.

dbPowerAmp is cool, but does not do ra to mp3.

Does anyone know of any freeware program that will do this conversion?

thanks,

ed

You only need the CODECS files from Real--the rest of the crap can be
dumped. They can usually be found at \Program Files\Common
Files\Real\Codecs.
