I have a barebone (CFI) computer, and my motherboard has a 5-pin connector
for IR-module. But i can only find USB ir-modules, and I don't even know
what this kind of connector is called. (it's simply 5 pins in a row with
standard distance)

Does anyone know of any IR-modules for this connector? (and is it possible
to make it work with SuSE linux 9.1?)

Or do you maybe have an idea of what to search for to find such a thing?

You're looking for something like this.
http://www.fwd.com.tw/products/remote/IACR/irda.htm

In the UK you can get them from Maplin. Maybe Radio Shack in US.

You might find one on eBay, and there are instructions on the web to make
your own.

Not sure what you plan on using it for, but just so you know the IRDA receivers
don't work with remote controls, only stuff like laptops.

Good for mobile phones too, unless you have bluetooth.

I'm sorry that I did not explain properly. I was mainly thinking of a remote
control module. But my connector is for IrDA. Pity.

In that case you are far better off buying a remote control receiver. Sometimes
IrDA will work with remotes, but usually not, and very little software supports
it. IrDA and IR remotes use different frequencies and aren't compatible with
each other.

Your best bet it to buy something like the IRA-2 or IRA-3 from
www.home-electro.com

That's what I did, and it works great. There are many good programs that
support them, such as girder and irasssistant. Girder is by far the best, but
also fairly difficult to set up.

You should be able to find something that hooks up to USB for
remote control, the IRDA connector isn't needed at all for that.
