i would like to play one of my games over my home network with some friends
and as far as i can tell i cant do it with windows Vista becuase it requires
an IPX protocol, which Vista is the first windows to not support, I cant be
the only person having this problem. any help would be appreciated thank you

A little goggling shows there are a few people out there with the question,
but no real answers. Time for a new game I reckon

well i guess its time for a downgrade and a non recomendation of Vista to all
those who play classic multiplayer games over their netowrk. a new game will
not solve the problem.

BTW, what specific game(s) are we talking about here that support IPX/SPX
multiplayer but do not implement TCP/IP multiplayer as an option?

Dude!

Doom 1 and 2!!! the greatest games ever! they only allowed IPX as I don't
think IP was invented back in the caveman days

Diablo 1 was IPX-only for lan games I think.

Actually, I would dare to say that IP was around 20 years or so before IPX.

The reason they supported IPX instead of IP, is because at the time, pretty
much everybody and their mother ran Novell networks, and those running
Microsoft Lan manager were running NetBeui. And if you worked in a DEC\VAX
enviroment, you were probably running DecNet and Mac offices ran Appletalk

So they supported the OS that was most common. I actually was workign for
the Army at the time, and we were one of the handful of shops running
TCP\IP. Not that we didn't load the IPX client up ont eh workstation, we
just couldn't play against people in other rooms, as the router filtered all
IPX traffic

I want to say it was Quake that was the first major game that started using
IP, which of course, lead to the whole world of Internet Multiplayer
