IPSEC vs MS-CHAP

I realize that IPSEC is the preferred method for
encrypting data sent over a network. But I am getting
confused about what MS-CHAP does and does not do.

I know that MS-CHAP encryptes authorization but does it
also encrypt the data as well? If it does what are the
advantages/disadvantage of using MS-CHAP rather than IPSEC?
 
mschap is an authentication protocl its function stopps after authentication
is done, IPsec is a protocl that is used to encrypt data after
authentication succeed
