iPod- good GRIEF! (help needed)

I was given an iPod for Christmas.(I at first percieved i was lucky...) So far I have already had to spend $20 on the thing, just to get it to work on the DELL Dimension 4000s my family owns. Anyway, iTunes, the only music media player/download device that the iPod is compatable with will not load onto my XP Home Edition system. Could Windows Media Player be interfering with it? Is there anything I can do? Thank you for your time. Help is much appreciated!

Hi, WMP in one way affects iTunes or your PC connecting your the iPod. I
currently use Anapod with my iPod.
