Ipconfig vs winipconfig

Yo,

Is there a way to access the IP info on a WinXP Home
machine like winipconfig did in WinMe ? Somehow, my
network lost it's IP add/subnet mask and DNS info. I'm
forcing addresses on it now (behind NAT - so it's pretty
static anyway). I'd like to be able to renew some way
like I was able to with WinMe.

You can download a version of Winipcfg from Microsoft. Ipconfig is the
utility that did all the IP configurations for NT/2000/XP.

Y.

I beg to differ, Dave. It has worked flawlessly for me since XP was still at Beta 1. While it doesn't do DNS servers, it never has, even under Windows 2000. The user asked for a GUI alternative to IPCONFIG, and that's what was provided.

WNTIPCFG.EXE is bug ridden and should be avoided. The
OP should use the IPCONFIG /RENEW
command.
I have WNTIPCFG.EXE 5.0.2195.3572 and it fails to
display such things as the DNS servers.
It is also NOT included in the Full version of the Win2K
Resource Kit and I doubt it is in
the WinXP Resource Kit probably for the same reason. It does NOT work correctly.

Dave

The Win2K version of WINIPCFG can be downloaded at

http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/tool s/existing/wntipcfg-o.asp

By default, the file is placed in C:\Program
Files\Resource Kit and is called WNTIPCFG.EXE

Thanks for all the comment !!

On the contrary...

It also fails to display WINS servers.
It also errors out and fails to even load when I previously launch a PPP connection.
If it doesn't display DNS and WINS in a static context and won't even work with PPP, how can
you say it has "worked flawlessly" ?
One negates the other. That is not displaying DNS or WINS servers are flaws. Again, why I
mention it is not included with the Full Win2K Resource Kit nor included with XP's Resource
Kit.

It might be a GUI utility but is far from an alternative to IPCONFIG simply becuase many
constructs don't work and production of this utility was discontinued ~5 years ago.

Can you point me to a newer version than WNTIPCFG.EXE v5.0.2195.3572 ?

Dave

No, you're probably correct that it hasn't been updated, and why they haven't, I don't know. Might be something to look into writing myself :)

You can see what the settings are in a run of the Command Prompt and
giving
ipconfig /all

You set them in the Properties of the relevant connection in Network
Connections. Mainly (r-click - Properties) highlight TCP/IP in the pane
and Properties of that
