Ipconfig doesn't work!

For some reason ipconfig no longer works. It simply
returns "Windows IP Configuration". Using the /all switch
I get host information, node type, etc. But the IP address
(and other information specific to the network adapters)
does not appear.

It used to work just fine, but I do not recall when the
problem started or the changes that may be responsible.

The computer is a Toshiba Satellite 1800 (s207) running
Windows XP Pro SP1. It has built in Ethernet 10/100 and
wlan.

Any ideas on a solution?

Thank you,
Jpoole

make sure you have good connection. if yes, try TCP/IP repair or use netsh.

The connections work fine. By tcp/ip repair I assume that
you mean to choose the repair option when right clicking
on the adapter. Repair gives this error message: "the
following steps of the repair operation failed: flushing
the arp cache. Please contact your network administrator
or ISP."

I also tried the netsh int ip reset command and rebooted.
It made no difference.

Another note: dhcp works fine, but if I
try "ipconfig /renew" I get the following message: "the
operation failed as no adapter is in the state permissible
for this operation."

Any more ideas?
Thank you!

Ever had a 3rd party firewalls on the machine? Try uninstalling them.

I tried removing the NIC in device manager. After
rebooting XP reinstalled the driver, but I still have the
same problem! The network functions and dhcp gets an IP
from the server, but ipconfig refuses to display the
information.

Forget about the arp cache error. The ipconfig renew is what you need to
worry about.

How about uninstalling the NIC in device manager, rebooting, and letting XP
reinstall.
