IWhen I run a print nozzle test on my iP6000D you get a series of 10
lines printed out. In addition to 6BK (black) and 6Y (yellow) you get
4 pairs of lines labeled 6C, 6M, 6PC and 6PM. In my case the second 6C
line (which is supposed to be a lighter version of the first 6C line)
doesn't print at all.

Since the first 6C line prints, is this an indication of a problem
with the print head or is it just that the print head is clogged?

It could be either or. The most simple test you can do is replace the
cartridge. The cartridge could be gummed up even if you're printing
5pl cyan and not 2pl cyan.

This site has more information about canon head cleaning.

QY6-0050 runs about $55 or so. The ip6000 isn't my favorite in the 6
tank models, but it's still pretty good. There really isn't a direct
replacement. The newer ip6600 is in short supply. The mp970 is on
closeout which you can get for $167.98 after a $100 rebate from
buy.com. But near as I'm aware there isn't going to be a 6 tank model
like the ip6000 any more, in fact the new mp980 doesn't have light
cyan/magenta, it uses a light black. But this is worst case scenario.
Most of the time cleaning the head, contacts, or replacing the tanks
and/or head resolves most issues.
