ip5000 - Disassembly instructions / service manual

I have a used ip5000 here - seems to work alright, but it's definitely
seen some heavy use.

I want to clean as much of it as I can, and this will mean getting the
housing apart.

I'm looking for disassembly instructions. Maybe a service manual of
some sort.

I see one at
http://www.2manuals.com/product_info.php?cPath=2_19_38&products_id=574

But it's not really clear to me whether this will guide me in
dissecting the thing or not. If so, I'll pay the ten bucks and download
that document.

Other links/resources would be appreciated.

If I kill the printer in the process it won't be the end of the world,
but obviously that wouldn't be my preference. ;-)

The service manuals for this series vary quite a bit in detail on how to remove
the covers. I don't have the ip5000 manual but the ip5200 manual is quite good.
I would pay the money and see what it is like.
If you are really keen to take the printer apart then make sure you remove and
replace the waste ink pads. You can use carpet underfelt if you can't find a
source of the real pads or you can very carefully wash and dry the pads (use a
stainless steel sink and LOTS of water to flush the pads), wear gloves!
The manual should also tell you how to reset the waste ink counters, do this if
you replace or clean the pads.

I downloaded it.

It's got some exploded diagrams as part of the parts list, but no real
'instructions' as to how to get the various bits off.

I'll see what I can do. ;)

I have a large hammer that I find useful on Lexmark printers...

I'm posting the Parts & Service manual for the iP4000 & iP5000 in
alt.binaries.e-book.technical for all.

Tony, would it be unreasonable to ask for you to share the segment of
service mode button presses? I know only a few of the commands, would
be handy to know more.

Thanks.

HO - LY - CRAP. I had no idea how much ink could collect in the bottoms
of these things.

Not unreasonable at all. give me a day or so. The document I have does not
allow cut and paste so I need to find time to type the information and am a
fraction busy right now.
I will post it as soon as I can.
