Using W2K Pro. IP stack got corrupt. When trying to
release/renew, get message - "An operation was attempted
on something that is not a socket." The IP address for the
card is 169..., so it is not getting DHCP info. I tried
doing an in-place reinstall of W2K Pro, but no luck. I
also removed all protocols and the NIC from Device
Manager. How can I totally remove all TCP/IP info without
doing a destructive reinstall of W2K Pro? Thanks.

Correct.. Remove TCPIP again, the delete the following registry keys.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\WinSock2

And

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Winsock

The reinstall TCPIP.

Thank you,
