I'm running winXP pro SP1 on a brand new laptop with an integrated
(mini-PCI) Broadcom 802.11b wireless adapter. I can't seem to get
internet access even though packets are sent and recieved.

I log on to 2 different wireless networks thoughout the day.

1) Campus wiress internet, WEP enabled. This connection works 100%,
no problems.

2) Provided wireless at my apartment, no WEP. The owners of the
apartments have setup the router/access point and charge residents
$15/month extra to use it. But they have just set it up in november,
so november and december are 'trial' months with free service. In
january, they will start charging (and I assume they will enable the
WEP at this time).
This connection is the onw where the problems are.
- I get an IP from the access point (wireless router I assume). It's
64..., so I know its a real IP.
- I also get all the numbers I should (DNS, gateway, etc.)
- I ping an address (www.google.com) and it returns 100% of the 4
packets sent.
- I ping that address's IP with the same success
- I run tracert to an address (www.apple.com) and it hops about 10
times before landing at www.apple.com just like it should

- But still, no internet!!

The strange thing is that I do get instant messenging. I connect to
MSN (via trillian, not MSN messenger). It takes longer (2 mins or so
as opposed to 5 seconds on campus wireless) to connect, but I still
get service and can talk to buddies without any delays.

I used to have a dial-up conneciton configured, but I deleted that
15 mins ago and haven't been to the apartment to see if that fixed the
problem. That dialup connection was firewalled (via 'properties...
advanced' tab).

I've been surfing through the groups with no luck, seems quite a few
people have similar problems, but different causes (ad-hoc network as
opposed to access point network in my case, etc.)

Thanks for any help.
