Cable modem is working, and roadrunner says its fine at
their end. when attempting to renew ip config file, the
message is that the file is unavailable. the cable has
worked without incident for two years; roadrunner says the
problem is xp, the manufacturer says its not their problem.
Any ideas?

What exactly is the command you are using?
Did you try right clicking your network icon in the task bar then clicking
on repair?

.
are you also on a router? if you are, you access router
config thru the browser, usually starting with a
192.168.1. something or .0 ip, your mac address has to be
loaded into your router, also remember anytime you run
firewall software with the firmware firewalls that come
with routers you must disable xp's firewall, you find
this under properties on your lan connection (network
connections) last tab on right. can you not ping either?

My ISP has just stopped me from sending any .exe files
thru my e-mail service forcing me to zip them, and I am
highly miffed about this, makes me wonder what other pro-
active protocals are to come.
