Host computer is connected to a Linksys router with DHCP. Port 3389 was
forwarded to the current IP address handed out to the computer. RDP was
working fine. Since the host needs to have a static IP, I remotely
changed it to 192.168.1.99. DHCP begins handing out IP addresses at
192.168.100, so this address should work fine. As soon as I made the
change, RDP locked up and blew me off, as it should. I then logged into
the router and changed the forwarding on 3389 to the new, static IP
address, 192.168.1.99, and applied the changes. I am unable to connect
to the host computer. My hopes are that rebooting the host will solve
the problem, but since I am in the US, and the host computer is in
Germany, it's hard for me to get to it at the moment. Any idea why I
cannot get to the host? XP Pro normally permits TCP/IP changes without a
reboot.
