I use Active Ports to scan my ports and thought my IP address was
192.168.254.2. I went to WHATISMYIP.COM and found my IP is something
different!?

What is going on with these IP addresses? Does it change? (I use
Verizon DSL).

Thanks, George

IP address that's only used in Local Area Networks, i.e. internally.
The IP address assigned by your Internet Service Provider: 4.65.52.183
(hnllhi1-ar1-4-65-052-183.hnllhi1.dsl-verizon.net).

Thanks, which address should I be scanning for open ports? Perhaps I
should be doing more or other stuff to monitor/maintain security?

Sounds like you are going through a NAT device. 192.168.254 is a private
(non Internet routable) address.

What you see at WHATISMYIP.COM is external ip adress or
your default gateway. Check your TCP/IP Properties to find
out internal adress for your default gateway.

If your IP is anything like mine then you only have what
is known as a lease and do not actually own an IP address.
This would cost more than you could afford. So once your
lease is expired and your system renews it then you are
assigned a new IP address. Keep smiling.
