IP Address?

My computer is not renewing my IP address when I start the computer in the
morning. So I have no internet connection. I was clicking the internet
icon to repair and it fixed the problem. Today there was no icon to click
on. I got it back by using a system restore.

According to a road runner technician, I need to reinstall my operating
system.
My computer is still under warranty so I am not going to turn it off till I
talk to Dell.

Does this sound like good advice? Any other suggestions?

TIA

Hi,

Read this:

How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in Windows XP

You should not need to reinstall the operating system (the tech was just
being lazy at that point and trying to keep his/her troubleshooting time to
a minimum).

Who or what is a"road runner" tech, some fly-by-night service.....Either way,
dell usually runs intel hardware, try going to intel.com,download the drivers/
software for youre internet hardware. Also, you can/could create a new user,
open xp in new user account,if all is well, then the old account is simply
corrupted,delete it...

Mike - There is no reason that anyone outside the States would know that.
The world is a very big place.
