My ethernet card has been mysteriously assigned a 195. ip
address, one that has been restricted by microsoft. I
have run ip config, released, renewed, called tech
support (they told me to reinstall windows...)and nothing
is working. Does anyone have an idea or, even better, a
fix for this throughly annoying problem? Please respond,
any advice will help.

What is the exact IP address? What do you mean by "restricted by
microsoft"? I'm not aware of anything starting with 195 that's
associated with Microsoft.

If it starts with 169.254, it means that your Ethernet card can't
connect to a DHCP server to get an IP address assigned.
