Why a computer wouldn't pick up an IP ADDRESS?
I have a external cable moden changed by my internet
provider and they tell me that something must be wrong
with the computer since it does not pick up the IP.
Why is that? Any help?

HI,

Many times this is caused by a bad network card or cable. Have yout tried
swapping them out?

Thanks,

Also what IP address do you see? 169.*.*.* or 0.0.0.0 would help to know.
As far as network cards go, if it is in device manager as "OK" do an
ipconfig /all from cmd line and check mac address(Physical Address), and
make sure it is not something like FF-FF-FF-or 00-00-00-00-00....I get one
of these from installs about every month or so, you will not get any IP from
that but the hardware looks fine.
