Can an IP address be spoofed? I think I know that an ordinary eMail address
can be spoofed, but I was under the impresion that IPs cannot be spoofed.
Somebody help.

I thought that's what anonymizers do?

By an e-mail worm? I don't think so. The protocol requires a two
way communications link. I think that the packets themselves could
be spoofed in a connectionless protocol though - or an asymetric
two way link could be set up so that any return communications
could be routed to the sending machine via a different path.

....but I think it would take more doing than an e-mail worm would
be capable of.

....spam on the other hand is another story.

Some (most) e-mail servers insert an IP# in the headers. This is the IP# that
they must reply to to make the connection. It is usually the IP# of the sending
machine.

On an email spoofing the IP address of the sender would require
collusion from the next guy in the chain, afaik.
