Hi,
What is the IP Address of a network adapter when the cable is
unplugged ? I am aware that the card can be configured statically
through "Network Properties" when the media is disconnected. But does
it take any effect on the adapter ? When i execute ipconfig /all, it
does not list any IP address or subnet or gateway. Likewise,
WBEMTEST.exe shows an IP address of "0.0.0.0" under these
circumstances.
So, will it be correct to say that the IP address i enter
statically when the media is disconnected is nothing more than a
number, which gets stored somewhere in the registry? It does not have
any impact on the adapter at that moment. But, when at a future
time, the media is connected, the OS looks into the registry and
retrieves the settings previously entered and configures the LAN card
accordingly. Is my thinking correct ? Please help !!
Best Regards,
