IP address keeps changing

I am connecting to the internet through a wireless
network card and router on an XP machine. Connection is
fine for a while and then the computer changes the IP
address and I can't reconnect to the internet unless I
restart the PC.

Does any one have a solution? It's driving us mad!

Thanks in advance

Hi there,

If you only use your wireless connection with your router
(i.e. it's a desktop and doesn't get moved around to
different wireless networks), you can try to force your
wireless card to use a static IP address.

To do this, go to to Start->Control Panel->Network
Connections->Wireless Network Connection. You should see
the screen with information about the signal strength,
packets sent and recieved and more. Click
on "Properties". On the screen that comes up, click
on "Internet Protocol" to highlight it, and then click
properties. Here you can enter the IP information that
you have recieved from your router when your connection
is working. To find this information, go back to the
window for the Wireless Network Connection status, and
click on the support tab. Click on "Details" and enter
all that information into the static IP boxes. When
you're done, click on OK until you're out of all the
windows.

Hope this helps,

Nick
