I have been getting an IP address conflict message on
one of 2 windows xp machines after doing a windows update.
Home network consists of linksys cable modem connected to
a linksys befsr11 router.

The computer that is having problems is a gigabyte 8knxp
motherboard with Intel onboard LAN. Installed windows
xp sp1a with no problems. Then downloaded critical
updates using Microsoft Update. Soon after, I start
getting IP address conflicts and some corruption in IE
temporary folders. Tried static, dynamic IP addressing
with same problem. Linksys router is the DCHP server.
I have also disabled ICS without any good results. Used
netgear lan card with onboard lan disabled but still
received the IP address conflict and windows corruption.

I have clean reinstalled 3 times. No problems before
adding critical updates. My other computer with just
windows xp, added the critical updates and have no
problems. I have run nbtstat -n and just list offending
computer. I have run out of things to try, I appreciate
any help especially if someone else has run into this
problem.

No, the computer is assigned different address (i.e.
192.168.1.112). Seems to only get the IP conflict after
some corruption as stated. Even after updating to
latest windows xp updates and drivers, the occurrences
are fewer but still occur.

Is the conflicting address 192.168.0.1?
