Yesterday, everything was working fine on the laptop.
Last evening the user installed some software (I'm still
trying to determine what). Today, when he comes into the
office, he can't connect to the network. The IP address
(using ipconfig) is incorrect, and therefore, he can't
reach the DHCP server. I tried to release the IP address,
but that won't work. I can ping 127.0.0.1, so I know that
is working well. What is happening? Any ideas?

One possible solution is to use System Restore to go back in time to
before the user installed the un-known software, when everything was
working.
