Iomega LPT port 100 MB ZipDrive and WinXP - unable to connect

Subject almost says it all.

I have WinXP and an old Iomega 100MB parallel port ZipDrive, which I am
not able to see from WinXP Pro. The machine is a dual boot installation
running on a Dual Pentium hardware. The second system is the eComStation
(OS/2), which works with the ZipDrive without problems, so the WinXP
inability to see it cannot be caused by the HW or BIOS settings.

I visited Iomega Website, downloaded SW, read NewsGroups, searched on
Google, no luck.

If anyone could give me any hints, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I'm not using my old Iomega Parallel ZIP-100 much but tested the device
a few times some time ago in Windows XP Home SP1.
The ZIP worked without problem without loading any Iomega software or
driver but using the by Iomega advised parallel port settings.
Also it is no longer possible to have a printer connected at the same time.

STEP FOUR - Enable the legacy plug and play in Device Manager

1. Right-click the My Computer icon and then click Manage.

Note: In Windows XP, you will need to click Start and then
right-click the My Computer icon.
2. Click the plus (+) symbol next to System Tools.

3. Double-click Device Manager.

4. Click the plus (+) symbol next to Ports.

5. Double-click the Printer Port icon.

6. Click the Port Settings tab.

7. Within the Filter Resource Method box, click Use any interrupt
assigned to port.

8. Click Enable legacy plug and play detection to place a check mark.

9. Click OK and then close the Computer Management Window.

10. Restart your computer for changes to take effect.

11. Double-click the My Computer icon.

Note: In Windows XP, you will need to click Start and then click
the My Computer icon.

If your Zip drive is listed with a drive letter, you are
now ready to use your drive.

If your Zip drive is not listed with a drive letter
assigned, please continue with the next step.

STEP FIVE - Change the parallel port mode in the computer setup (BIOS)

Some parallel port mode settings may not allow your Zip drive and
computer to communicate properly. On most computers, the parallel port
mode can be changed in the computer setup.

1. Refer to the documentation that came with your computer or
contact the computer manufacturer for instructions on accessing your
computer setup.

2. Locate the parallel port mode setting.

3. Set the Parallel port to Enabled.

4. Set the Mode to EPP or bi-directional.

5. Set the I/O (Input/Output) address to 378.

6. Set the Interrupt to IRQ 7.

7. Save changes and exit out of the computer setup.

8. Restart your computer.

9. Double-click the My Computer icon to verify there is a Zip drive
with a letter assigned.

Note: In Windows XP, you will need to click Start and then click
the My Computer icon.

If your Zip drive is listed with a drive letter, you are now ready to
use your drive.

Is there any way to get XP to recognize a ZIP drive connected to my
parallel

port? I realize that the drive is old, but it's the best way to transfer
files from my old PC to my new one....

You don't need any of the Iomega crapware. Run RegEdit, go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Parport\Parameters, and
change the "ParEnableLegacyZip" value to 1. Redo a hardware scan. That's
all that was needed in my case, and I've done this on 3 separate machines.

Device Management, LPT Port Properties, Port Settings tab. "Use any interrupt
assigned to the port" and "Enable legacy Plug and Play detection."

(document nuked)

I had done all that before I posted here. No luck.
Does the statement about printer means, that the printer cannot be
physically connected to the same LPT even if it is switched off?
I have a printer connected to the output connector of the Iomega ZIP
drive, but the printer is kept off.

You don't need any of the Iomega crapware. Run RegEdit, go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Parport\Parameters, and
change the "ParEnableLegacyZip" value to 1. Redo a hardware scan. That's
all that was needed in my case, and I've done this on 3 separate

Of course I had found that (before I posted here). However, my setting
already was = 1. So no luck there either.
